Bush wanted the trail — the path a mind actually took through a library — to be as durable as the documents.
Wiki-links are trails you can walk forwards. Backlinks are trails you can walk backwards. The graph is the trail system seen from above. Publishing a garden is handing someone else a trailhead.
Do not confuse the graph for the thinking. The thinking happens when you rewrite a literature note like Attention Is All You Need — working notes into a claim like Attention is a routing function.
